Indonesian are known for their warm hospitality. However, the general
rule of thumb when traveling anywhere should be applied : take simple
precautions. Do not draw to much attention to your valuables (jewelry, wallet,
camera, etc ) or walk alone through deserted areas. Always keep your passport
and
important travel document secure, and have emergency and tourist police number handy.

Airport Tax
The airport impose an airport tax Rp.150,000 for travelers on
international routes and Rp40,000 for those on domestic routes. Except for
Garuda airlines which are already included in the ticket.
Tipping
Although not compulsory, tipping is expected in many situations. There is
no set standard for the amount of tip one should give. Depending on location, generally baggage handlers, taxi drivers
or parking attendant can be tipped anywhere between Rp 10,000 to Rp 50,000. For
restaurant tipping, 10% should be sufficient in addition to the mandatory 21%
tax and service charge. It is advisable to keep small denomination ( Rp5,000 –
Rp 20,000 ) bank notes for tipping, especially when travelling by taxi, as
drivers are often short of change.
Dress code for sightseeing
Due to Indonesia high humidity, it is advisable to dress in comfortable cotton
wear. Wearing decent clothing is generally advised in most situations. Generally,
this involves showing little skin, particularly the chest, legs and shoulders. This
is especially important when visiting more conservative surroundings such as
government offices, mosques, churches and temples; it is recommended that your
attire be respectful of the situation.
Accommodation
Indonesia has a wide range of accommodation at competitive rates from
international five-star plus hotel to budget accommodations and timeshare
apartments.
